Pull for Ronald McDonald
The Oconee Prevention Resource Council has coordinated an effort that involves ALL of the elementary-age children, in both private and public schools, the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority of Georgia College & State University, the Ronald McDonald Fast Food Restaurant Corporation, the Baldwin County Public School System, and the John Milledge Academy.
Begun in 1999, during Red Ribbon Week, a healthy new habit is being fostered among our children and their families...pulling pop tabs!!! Following each grading period, the tabs are collected from each classroom, then a winner for each elementary school is chosen and they receive a "Happy Meals" lunch. An overall county winner is chosen as well and "Ronald McDonald" himself delivers their lunch!
The Alpha Delta Pi Sorority gathers all the tabs, taking them to be recycled. The proceeds from this venture are then given to the Ronald McDonald House in Macon, Georgia.
The Ronald McDonald house provides a place for families of critically ill, hospitalized children to stay while their children undergoes treatment. Our elementary children have learned that a simple, positive new habit, like pulling a tab, can make a huge difference in the life of a child and the child's family.
"We believe that when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s, which can change a community, and ultimately the world."
